Terengganu targets 69 gold medals at Sukma

KUALA NERUS, June 4 (Bernama) -- Terengganu is targeting 69 gold medals to be overall champion of the Malaysia Games (Sukma) which will be held in Perak in September.

State Sports Council director Ibni Amin Busu said the target was achievable based on the training programmes carried out since Nov 2016, soon after the Sukma in Sarawak concluded.

He said 29 sports would be contested with 427 gold medals offered from Sept 12 to 22.

"We aim to earn gold in cycling, judo, archery, taekwondo, silat and athletics," he told reporters at the meeting with the Terengganu Sukma contingent here today.

Ibni Amin said 65 per cent of the Terengganu Sukma athletes had participated in the Sukma in Sarawak two years ago and the rest were young athletes who had demonstrated their excellent abilities in their respective fields.

"With the slogan 'Win Back Mission 2018',  I'm confident that the Terengganu athletes will be able to achieve the target and I hope all those involved will give their full commitment," he said.
